Northern Illinois Winter Weather Advisory: Freezing Drizzle and Snow Continue Through 9 PM Monday Night

Chicago, IL – Freezing drizzle and lake effect snow are causing hazardous travel conditions across northern Illinois, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 9 p.m. Monday. Light ice accumulations and up to two inches of snow are expected, particularly in Cook and DuPage counties.

According to the National Weather Service, slick roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are creating dangerous driving conditions. Winds reaching 30 mph are contributing to reduced visibility. Drivers should slow down and allow extra time for travel. Those on foot should exercise caution, as icy surfaces increase the risk of falls.

Areas like Naperville, Schaumburg, and Evanston are already experiencing rapidly changing weather. Heavy snow bands alternate with clear skies within just a few miles, making conditions unpredictable. By late evening, temperatures will hover in the mid-20s, with wind chills dropping to the teens.

Tuesday will see a break from precipitation, but roads may remain icy during the morning commute. The high is expected to reach 30°F with partly cloudy skies. A warming trend is anticipated midweek, with highs nearing 40°F by Thursday, before another potential snowstorm Friday evening.
