Nuna Baby Essentials is recalling more than 600,000 Rava car seats due to a defect in the harness system that could cause it to fail during a crash. The recall follows multiple complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about the harness unexpectedly loosening.
Several consumers reported issues with the harness not staying secure, including one parent who noticed their child kept slipping out of the seat. “My husband and I were driving today and noticed my daughter kept getting out of her seat,” one consumer wrote. Upon further inspection, they discovered the problem was a faulty self-ratcheting system. Another parent reported finding their 1-year-old “completely unstrapped” after a drive.
Nuna attributes the defect to debris getting lodged in the area around the front harness adjuster button. This blockage prevents the adjuster teeth from properly gripping the strap, causing the harness to loosen. A loose harness could fail to restrain the child properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The affected car seats, which retail for around $400 and are sold at stores like Neiman Marcus, Pottery Barn, and Dillard’s, were manufactured between July 16, 2016, and October 25, 2023. The recalled seats have a plastic cover housing the harness adjuster, while newer models made after October 25, 2023, feature a fabric cover and are not part of the recall.
Nuna is offering eligible customers a free seat pad, cleaning kit, and care instructions to ensure the harness system remains clean and functional. If the harness is still functioning correctly, consumers can continue using the car seat, provided they follow the cleaning and maintenance instructions.
Consumers with a recalled car seat will first receive a letter informing them of the recall and asking them to confirm their seat’s status. A follow-up letter will notify them when the seat pad and cleaning kit are available.
Those with an unregistered seat can contact Nuna by filling out an online form, emailing [email protected], or calling 1-855-686-2891.
