An off-duty Cleveland police officer has been taken into custody following a shooting incident in the parking lot of Riverview Elementary School in Painesville Township. The incident, which stemmed from a domestic dispute between two adults, occurred around 9:10 a.m., prompting the school to go into lockdown.
According to a statement from the school district, a shot was fired near vehicles in the parking lot, directed away from the school towards Madison Avenue. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
A school resource officer responded quickly, deploying a Taser on the gunman, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.
After a brief lockdown period, Riverview Elementary reopened and notified parents via social media that they could pick up their children early if they chose to do so. The identity of the officer involved has not yet been released, and authorities continue to investigate the situation.
