WHO Declares mpox outbreak, 70 देशों में फैला Monkeypox virus, जानें क्या है एमपॉक्स, इससे कैसे बचें

Monkeypox virus: As we all know day by day different kinds of viruses are spreading in the environment. Here we are discussing about the mpox which is spreading very fast in the Africa. Declaring the mpox outbreak in Africa to be a public health emergency on Wednesday, the World Health Organization also issued a warning that the virus may eventually move globally. After the meeting of the U.N. health agency’s emergency committee, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of WHO, made the announcement. On Tuesday, continent’s public health emergency for mpox announced by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), in comparison of the last year there have already been more than 14,000 cases and 524 deaths in Africa this year. The Democratic Republic of the Congo has accounted for over 96% of all cases and deaths. The introduction of a new strain of the disease that may be more readily disseminated among humans worries scientists.

Mpox [Monkeypox virus]: What is it?

So many scientists are working and research on the mpox disease. Scientists initially discovered mpox, sometimes referred to as monkeypox. Prior until recently, individuals in central and west Africa who had intimate contact with infected animals accounted for the majority of human cases. For the first time, the virus was shown to transmit through intercourse in 2022, and outbreaks were reported in over 70 countries worldwide that had not before had mpox. Although it causes less severe symptoms like fever, chills, and body pains, mpox is related to smallpox. More severe cases may result in lesions on the chest, hands, face, and genitalia.

According to the scientists’ reports, the virus that causes mpox belongs to the same family as smallpox. The virus produces painful, permanently scarred rashes in humans and is thought to be carried by tiny rodents in some African countries. The majority of mpox deaths occur in the children who are under the age of 5, and those who with weakened immune systems particularly vulnerable to the infection.

What’s going on in Africa that warrants all of this worry?

Africa is suffering from a big epicdemic which is mpox. There has been a sharp increase in cases. At least 13 African nations have now confirmed cases of mpox, according to a study released by the Africa CDC last week. The CDC reported that illnesses were up 160% and deaths were up 19% from the same period last year. Scientists reported earlier this year that a new strain of mpox, which can kill up to 10% of individuals and spread more readily, has emerged in a mining town in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
