A tentative agreement has been reached between the controversial Chicas Locas nightclub and El Paso County, according to KTEP public radio. The County Attorney’s Office confirmed that a settlement is in the works after a lengthy court hearing on Monday, Nov. 25.
The County had previously sought to shut down the nightclub, which operates in the former Jaguars location in East El Paso. However, Casey Wallace, a private attorney representing Chicas Locas, stated that the pending agreement would allow the club to open in March 2024. Wallace added that the club owners have made the necessary improvements and obtained permits required by the City of El Paso.
The terms of the settlement stipulate that both parties have until Dec. 6 to finalize the agreement. As part of the deal, the club owners must ensure the hiring of off-duty police officers or level-4 security personnel, and pay several thousand dollars in bonds.
Additionally, the County Attorney’s Office announced that Chicas Locas will remain closed until March 1, 2024, and must surrender a $5,000 bond while placing a new $10,000 bond. The nightclub will also be required to demonstrate compliance with the original conditions set before it can reopen, and agree not to appeal the settlement.
