New Hampshire, the land of granite peaks, tax-free shopping, and a state motto that’s somehow both inspiring and mildly threatening. (“Live Free or Die,” anyone?) While New Hampshirites are known for their independence, Yankee stoicism, and fierce love of flannel, they do have a few pressure points that, if poked just right, will have them glaring over their maple syrup like you just insulted their snowblower. Ask if they live near Boston.
No. That’s Massachusetts. That’s the whole point.
Say Vermont is the “prettier” New England state.
They’ll nod politely, but their soul is screaming.
Complain that there’s “nothing to do.”

Still, New Hampshirites are a good-hearted crew—once you earn their trust, which may take years and at least one snowstorm bonding experience. Just respect their space, embrace the flannel, and never, ever suggest they’re basically Massachusetts.
