GILLETTE, Wyo. – Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Aggravated assault, May 7, Energy Court, GPD

Officers responded to a parking lot on Energy Court to investigate a vehicle crash around 6:02 a.m. yesterday, Gillette Police Sgt. Eric Vos said. When they arrived, officers learned a 23-year-old man intentionally crashed his Chevrolet Tahoe into a 20-year-old man’s Ford as part of a property dispute. The 23-year-old man was arrested for property destruction and felony aggravated assault.

Animal cruelty, May 7, Ledoux Avenue, GPD

Animal control officers responded to an apartment on Ledoux Avenue around 1:15 p.m. for the report of abandoned dogs, Vos said. A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman no longer lived in the unit but had arranged daily care. They let officers into the apartment, where they found two dogs living in unsuitable conditions. The animals were taken to the City of Gillette Animal Shelter, and the 23-year-old man was cited for animal cruelty.

Fraud, May 7, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

A 28-year-old woman called officers to an auto parts store on S. Douglas Highway around 1:39 p.m. after discovering a fraudulent transaction, Vos said. The business account reportedly showed an unauthorized charge for $531, and the investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting, May 7, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers cited a 44-year-old woman for shoplifting at a S. Douglas Highway department store yesterday around 3:08 p.m., Vos said. The woman allegedly tried to take 69.97 in merchandise without paying for it.

Hit-and-run, May 7, Highway 50, CCSO

A 31-year-old man called the sheriff’s office yesterday to report a suspected hit-and-run involving his 2019 Honda Accord, Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Gary Sams said. The man said he arrived for work at 8:05 a.m. and noticed the damage at 6 p.m. when he got off. The damage was estimated at over $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting, May 8, Highway 14-16, GPD

Officers responded to a fueling station on Highway 14-16 around 2:55 a.m. this morning to investigate a reported shoplifting, Vos said. An intoxicated 37-year-old man had been in the store for hours, stating he was “messed up.” He allegedly took a charging block and cord without having money to pay for them. Officers took the man into custody for shoplifting and charged him with drug possession after a search yielded a THC vape cartridge.
