C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, May 6

GILLETTE, Wyo. – Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Fraud, May 5, N. Bundy Avenue, GPD

A 42-year-old man called the police at 8:45 a.m. yesterday to report losing over $8,600 through a fraudulent transaction in mid-April, Gillette Police Sgt. Jay Johnson said. The man told officers that a 46-year-old man called to place a merchandise order on April 16. Around eight days later, an individual came to retrieve the order. On May 3, the individual who placed the order called to request a refund because the purchase was fraudulent. Two days later, the same man called again to place another order. When the 42-year-old man asked to speak with a higher-up, the 46-year-old hung up. As of May 5, the calls are believed to be fictitious, and the 42-year-old man is out over $8,600. The investigation is ongoing.

Property destruction, May 5, Camel Drive, GPD

Officers responded to Campbell County High School to investigate a property destruction report around 12:36 p.m., Johnson said. A school principal said a 15-year-old boy broke a soap dispenser and squirted soap throughout a bathroom. The boy also clogged the toilets and damaged other property. The boy was cited for property destruction.

Crash, May 5, Saunders Boulevard, GPD

A 17-year-old girl was cited for improper lookout after allegedly causing a crash in a parking lot on Saunders Boulevard around 12:59 p.m., Johnson said. The girl was operating a 2011 Ford pickup and pulled out in front of a 15-year-old girl operating a 1999 Nissan. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage to both vehicles.

Shoplifting, May 5, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers cited a 19-year-old girl and two 18-year-old girls for shoplifting after they were reported for attempting to steal $30 in merchandise from a business on S. Douglas Highway around 5:34 p.m. yesterday, Johnson said. The girls were seen concealing clothing and self-care items in their purses by a 56-year-old woman.

Intoxication, May 5, Force Road, GPD

Officers responded to Force Road for the report of an intoxicated 56-year-old woman threatening family members around 7:40 p.m. on May 5, Johnson said. They arrived to find a 66-year-old man locked in a room with his 27-year-old daughter. The two of them locked themselves in the room after the 56-year-old woman threatened them with violence and made nonsensical statements. The woman yelled profanities at officers and threatened to kill them. She was ultimately taken into custody for intoxication.
