C17 Crime Clips for Monday, May 5

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Property destruction, May 2, Opportunity Spur, GPD

Gillette Police Sgt. Jay Johnson said officers cited two teenagers for property destruction around 8:39 a.m. after they allegedly put cheese slices on a 17-year-old girl’s vehicle at Westwood High School recently. A 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy agreed to have no contact with the 17-year-old vehicle owner. There was no permanent damage.

False imprisonment, May 2, Bridle Bit Court, GPD

Officers responded to Bridle Bit Court around 12:40 p.m. for a report of a woman being forcibly taken into a home and restrained on the ground, Johnson said. A 53-year-old man was arrested for domestic battery and false imprisonment following an incident with his 28-year-old wife. The woman was allegedly trying to break indoor surveillance cameras when the man grabbed her by the wrist, causing pain. She attempted to flee, but the man grabbed her. He pulled her back into the residence and held her on the ground. The man was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Campbell County Detention Center.

Intoxication, May 2, Madison Street, GPD

A 45-year-old man was cited for intoxication after he was reported for stumbling onto Madison Street around 2:44 p.m., Johnson said. The man was lying face down when officers arrived. He told them that he had too many drinks and didn’t know where he was. The man was transported to the hospital and is under review for violating the terms of his probation.

DWUI, May 2, Garner Lake Road, GPD

Officers arrested a 45-year-old woman for impaired driving after she was stopped for swerving into oncoming traffic near Garner Lake Road and East Sinclair Drive around 7:07 p.m., Johnson said. The woman displayed signs of intoxication and had an open shooter bottle of Crown Royal in a cupholder. She performed field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken into custody. Inside her vehicle, officers found nine open and empty Crown Royal shooter bottles as well as five unopened ones.

Child abuse, May 3, Foothills Boulevard, GPD

A 25-year-old woman called officers to report seeing a Snapchat of a 27-year-old woman bullying a 3-year-old girl she was babysitting on Foothills Boulevard around 10:57 a.m., Johnson said. The child was standing next to an overturned chair while the 27-year-old woman asked her if she was upset that a 27-year-old man dumped her out of it. The girl was mentally shut down, and the 27-year-old zoomed the camera in on the girl’s face and could be heard laughing. The girl’s mother, a 28-year-old woman, told officers she wanted the 27-year-old woman to teach the girl a lesson because the child was bullying others at daycare. There were no signs of physical abuse, and officers provided the girl’s mother with resources on how to interact with a defiant child. The Wyoming Department of Family Services will be following up.

DWUI, May 3, South Garner Lake Road, GPD

Officers responded to the area of South Garner Lake Road around 6:04 p.m. for a report of a potential drunk driver, Johnson said. They stopped a GMC Arcadia being operated by a 29-year-old man who displayed signs of intoxication. The man had three young children in the vehicle with him and was taken into custody after performing field sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence with child passengers, child endangerment and failing to maintain a single lane of travel.

DWUI, May 4, North Highway 14-16, GPD

A 27-year-old man was arrested for DWUI with a child passenger after officers stopped him in a white Chevrolet Traverse on North Highway 14-16 on May 4, Johnson said. The man displayed signs of intoxication and had his 5-year-old son with him. He was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests.

Suspicious activity, May 4, East 2nd Street, GPD

Johnson said a 22-year-old man called the police at 1:24 p.m. to report being approached by another man who wanted to fight on East 2nd Street. The man said he didn’t know the other man well and didn’t know why the man contacted him. While the man was trying to get the man to fight, he reportedly hit the side of his black Audi sedan with an unknown object, resulting in scratches. The investigation is ongoing.

Interference, May 4, North Gurley Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 15-year-old girl for interference after she allegedly fled from the Youth Emergency Services Crisis Shelter around 6:56 p.m., Johnson said. The girl was located and returned to the shelter despite her resistance. While officers were leaving the area, she reportedly ran away again. She was caught a short distance away and resisted officers once more. The Campbell County Attorney’s Office authorized the girl’s arrest, and she was charged with two counts of interference.
