
GILLETTE, Wyo. – Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Tobacco violation, April 28, Opportunity Spur, GPD
Officers responded to Westwood High School yesterday at 1:24 p.m. for the report of a student in possession of a vaping device, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Staff reportedly saw the device fall out of a 16-year-old boy’s pocket, and he was subsequently cited for possessing nicotine under 21.
Shoplifting, April 28, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers cited a 35-year-old man and a 39-year-old man for shoplifting after the two were caught trying to take $138 in merchandise from a S. Douglas Highway department store around 9:14 p.m. yesterday, Wasson said.
Drugs, April 28, Highway 14-16, GPD
A 30-year-old man was cited for drug possession after bar staff on Highway 14-16 reported seeing him drop a baggie of suspected drugs on the ground while he was gambling around 9:58 p.m., Wasson said. Surveillance footage showed the baggie falling from the man’s pants. When officers confronted the man about the baggie, he denied ownership and was cited for drug possession.
DWUI, April 29, W. 2nd Street, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 25-year-old man for impaired driving and drug possession following a traffic stop near W. 2nd Street and S. Burma Avenue this morning around 12:20 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was operating a 2015 GMC that deputies stopped for speeding. He displayed signs of intoxication and performed field sobriety tests, after which deputies took him into custody. Additionally, deputies located open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, a pipe with meth residue, a detox kit, and a baggie containing less than a gram of suspected meth. In addition to DWUI and drug possession, deputies charged the man with defrauding drug and alcohol screen tests.
MIC, April 29, Emerson Avenue, GPD
Officers cited a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man for consuming alcohol under 21 following a traffic stop at Emerson Avenue and Redwood Street around 2:58 a.m., Wasson said. During the stop, officers could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle and had the 17-year-old girl perform field sobriety tests. She was not arrested, though she and the 19-year-old man admitted to drinking and had alcohol in their systems.
