UW men’s golf tied for 7th after day 1 of Mountain West Championships – County 17

CRESWELL, Ore. — The University of Wyoming men’s golf team wrapped up day 1 at the Mountain West Conference Championships tied for seventh at 287 (-1).

“There was a lot of good stuff today,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “We have a lot of good stuff going. We are just going to go and do the same thing tomorrow. It’s important for us that we have a good plan, and we feel good, and I feel good about the guys.”

San Diego State leads the team standings at 269 (-19). New Mexico and San Jose State round out the top three at 278 (-10) and 279 (-9), respectively. San Diego State’s Tyler Kowack and Fresno State’s Joseph Lloyd are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 66 (-6).

Patrick Azevedo paced the Pokes. He’s tied for ninth after an opening round 69 (-3). His card featured six birdies, four of which were holed in succession.

Brody Leid checked in at a tie for 21st with a 71 (-1). He showcased his consistency, logging three birdies and 13 pars.

Kristof Panke shares 35th place at 73 (+1). He was also very steady, registering a birdie and 15 pars on the day.

Damon Vilkauskas rounds out the scorers for Wyoming at 74 (+2), which positions him in a tie for 43rd. He had a total of four birdies and three of those were scored back-to-back-to-back.

Jaren Calkins’ score is dropped. He’s tied for 52nd following a 77 (+5). Calkins managed a pair of birdies.

The second round began this morning.
