
GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, April 18, Wrangler Road, GPD
Officers responded to Wrangler Road around 9:33 a.m. after a woman called to report money missing from her 2011 Honda, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Someone allegedly stole between $300 and $400 in change and small bills. They also took two vaping devices valued at $22 each. The investigation is ongoing.
Shoplifting, April 18, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Wasson said officers cited a 36-year-old woman for shoplifting after she allegedly tried to take items from a South Douglas Highway department store without paying around 3:23 p.m. When confronted by officers, the woman admitted she had skipped scanning $240.90 in merchandise and was released after being issued a citation.
Shoplifting, April 19, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers responded to a sporting goods store on South Douglas Highway after staff called to report a customer for stealing merchandise, Wasson said. The man allegedly took a Vortex Diamondback scope and battery accessory, a combined total of $320. Charges are pending.
Assault, April 19, Country Club Road, GPD
Officers were dispatched to the Country Club Road area to investigate reports of a 35-year-old man assaulting a 17-year-old boy around 5:38 p.m., Wasson said. The man reportedly followed the 17-year-old boy and three others after one of them pointed a rifle at vehicles on Country Club Road. The man blocked the boys’ vehicle with his own, and reached into their vehicle, where he grabbed the 17-year-old boy by the neck and threatened to assault one of the passengers. According to the report, the 17-year-old whom the man threatened admitted to pointing a rifle from the vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, April 19, North Highway 14-16, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 33-year-old man for two counts of drug possession following an April 19 traffic stop at North Highway 14-16 and Skyline Drive around 11:27 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was operating a silver 2011 Mazda with an inoperable rear license plate light. During the stop, a drug dog indicated on the vehicle, which led to the discovery of less than 3 grams of THC wax and less than 3 grams of THC liquid. In addition to the drug charges, the man was cited for driving under suspension.
Drugs, April 20, North Gurley Avenue, CCSO
A 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged with drug possession following an April 20 traffic stop near North Gurley Avenue and East Lincoln Street around 10:13 p.m., Reynolds said. The woman failed to stop while exiting a parking lot in a silver Jeep Cherokee. A drug dog indicated on the vehicle, and deputies located .4 grams of suspected methamphetamine and meth paraphernalia.
Kidnapping, April 20, Wolff Road, GPD
An 18-year-old man called the police at 10:49 p.m. on April 20 to report he was following a 2014 Mazda that he knew a 21-year-old woman was in against her will, Wasson said. The woman had reportedly gotten into the vehicle with a 22-year-old man at a nearby fueling station to speak to him about their relationship. He took off once she was in and drove away at a high rate of speed, leading the woman to fear for her safety. The man refused to let her out of the vehicle as he drove with her friends in pursuit. At one point, the 22-year-old became afraid because he wasn’t supposed to be driving and had the woman get into the driver’s seat. She reportedly stopped the vehicle and fled on foot when she saw law enforcement. The 22-year-old was arrested for kidnapping and two counts of domestic violence in the form of battery.
