GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Rockpile Museum is extending a public invitation for a day of woolly fun during the 4th Annual Sheepherder’s Festival, scheduled for early May.
On May 3, the empty field behind the museum will host a whole flock of sheep from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during a free and family-friendly event highlighting the sheepherders who helped shape the spirit and economy of northeast Wyoming.
The event will include cultural performances, working dog demonstrations, live sheep shearing, historic sheep wagons and vendors of all kinds, according to the Rockpile Museum.
“This festival is about the rich history and enduring determination of sheepherders and their lifestyle in Wyoming — their cultures are woven into our Western fabric,” said Heather Rodriguez, event organizer.
Come ready for your slice of Wyoming history and performances not usually found in your average Western event, the museum says.
