C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, April 16 – County 17

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, April 15, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Crash, April 15, Highway 59, GPD

Officers responded to the intersection of Highway 59 and Interstate 90 for a report of a two-vehicle crash around 7:47 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 28-year-old woman was operating her 2015 Ford when she rear-ended a 52-year-old woman in a 2023 Jeep. No injuries were reported, and the 28-year-old was warned for improper lookout.

Breach of peace, April 15, Camel Drive, GPD

Officers cited a 17-year-old boy for assault and a 16-year-old boy for breach of peace following an altercation at Campbell County High School around 9:02 a.m., Wasson said. The 17-year-old reportedly admitted to hitting the 16-year-old several times with his hand, claiming the younger boy poked him in the eye with his finger. The 16-year-old said he accidentally poked the older boy’s eye while defending himself from the 17-year-old’s punches, claiming the altercation started after he “shushed” the older boy.

Suspicious activity, April 15, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 32-year-old man called the police at 11:40 a.m., stating that he had a rifle and that he wanted to shoot people at a truck stop on Highway 59, Wasson said. Truck stop staff saw the man pull away in a Volvo tractor-trailer unit with his father, a 55-year-old. After the vehicle was stopped, the 32-year-old told officers he called after his father had a verbal altercation with another patron at the truck stop. No firearms were located in the vehicle and officers took no action.

Theft, April 15, Butcher Court, GPD

Officers responded to a game store on Butcher Court around 4:01 p.m. after staff called to report a 22-year-old man for stealing a pack of sports trading cards worth $115, Wasson said. The man reportedly admitted to taking the pack and officers issued him a trespass notice from the store after citing him for theft.

Crash, April 15, Prairieview Drive, GPD

A 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after allegedly crashing his bicycle into a vehicle near Prairieview Drive and Morningside Drive around 7:09 p.m., Wasson said. The boy said his bicycle brakes failed as he approached the intersection, where he crashed into a 75-year-old man’s 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. The 75-year-old was cited for driving with an expired registration and not having proof of insurance. The boy sustained minor abrasions on his elbow and leg.
