Ted Kaczynski, known as the “Unabomber”, was found dead at a federal prison in North Carolina. Reports say the possible cause of the convicted domestic terrorist’s death may possibly be suicide.On June 10, at around 8 a.m., Ted Kaczynski, 81, was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at a federal prison medical center in Butner, North Carolina. Reports say Kaczynski was known as the “Unabomber” and was a convicted domestic terrorist.
According to Pandolfo, in December 2021, the Unabomber was transferred to North Carolina from a federal Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado. In Colorado, Kaczynski served 20 years in prison for a list of bombings that allegedly targeted scientists.
Unabomber Targeted Scientists
According to Traub, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) dubbed Kaczynski as the “Unabomber” because his targets appeared to be universities and airlines. Reportedly, Kaczynski mailed deadly handmade bombs to those he believed were destroying nature through technological advancement. In addition, he also bombed an American Airlines flight which changed how packages are boarded on airplanes and sent in the U.S.
For 17 years, the Unabomber led authorities on the longest manhunt in U.S. history before he was eventually captured in 1996. Reports say Kaczynski pleaded guilty after firing his lawyers when they attempted to set an insanity defense for him.
