Property Tax Relief Will Be Granted To The Residents of South California

Storm damage occurred in some neighborhoods in Southern California in January as a result of record-breaking rainfall. However, those homeowners do receive some relief in the form of their property taxes.

If you don’t also have supplemental flood insurance, insurance won’t always cover storm damage. Therefore, homeowners may incur costs of several thousand dollars. In addition, the due date for the second installment of property taxes in April is quickly approaching.

What homeowners might not know is that you can get your property taxes reduced or even eliminated if storm damage caused your home to be damaged or even destroyed.

Base on the article published by CBS News on February 09, 2023, if all of your property is destroyed and you don’t want to rebuild it where it was, you can purchase a new house and carry your tax base over to it.

You must apply within a year of the damage occurring and have at least $10,000 in damages. The amount of value your home has lost as a result of the damage can also be deducted from your property taxes.

If you’re having trouble making your payments, a payment plan may be able to help you get late fees eliminated or postponed.

You will receive a check from the county to reimburse you if you pay your taxes after the damage has been done because you haven’t applied for relief yet or it is still pending.
