The Secret to Making Millions on the Side: Experts Reveal the Least Time-consuming and Most Lucrative Side Hustles of 2022

Two in five Americans created or maintained at least one additional source of income in 2022, according to a survey released by The Harris Poll and workflow integration company Zapier on January 14, 2023. This is a 6% increase from December 2020, with millennials and Gen Zers leading the charge. A survey by Deloitte found that nearly half of these individuals live paycheck to paycheck and worry about not being able to cover their expenses.

Based on a report by CNBC on January 11, 2023, side hustles don’t have to be just as draining as a full-time job. CNBC Make It spoke with several individuals who brought in up to millions of dollars per year on the side, working less than 20 hours per week. The report suggests that the most lucrative and least time-consuming side hustles that gained popularity in 2022 included online education, real estate, vending machines, and monetizing your knowledge and passions.

Individuals like Kat Norton and Graham Cochrane have had success teaching their skills through social media, while others like Adriana Krause and Stephan Alvin have found success renting out real estate. Vending machines can also be a lucrative option, with individuals like Quinn Miller and Marcus Gram earning an average of $30,000 per month by managing them, as reported by CNBC. With more Americans expected to start their own side hustles in 2023, these options may be worth considering.
