New Mexico Food Stamps Disbursement Dates for January Announced

New Mexico residents who are struggling to afford healthy food may be able to get help through SNAP, also known as food stamps. The financial assistance is provided by the state’s Human Services Department and is distributed monthly through EBT cards. In January 2023, benefits will increase by 12.5% due to a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), as stated by Go Banking Rates on January 2, 2023.

To apply for SNAP benefits, residents can use the YesNM portal, download and mail an application, or visit a local HSD field office.

SNAP benefits can be used at participating retailers and grocery stores with the Quest logo. In addition, the Double Up Food Bucks program allows SNAP recipients to stretch their benefits by matching their spending on fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets. When they use their EBT card at these markets, they will receive an equal amount in Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) to purchase locally grown produce. SNAP benefits cannot be used to purchase items such as alcohol, tobacco, hot prepared meals, or non-food items such as cleaning supplies or cosmetics.

SNAP recipients in New Mexico are also eligible for discounts on certain products and services, including a discounted Amazon Prime subscription for $6.99 per month, according to an article published by Yahoo! Finance on October 27, 2022, and free or discounted admission to hundreds of museums, aquariums, and zoos nationwide, Go Banking Rates reports on August 23, 2022. Low-cost phone service is also available through the Federal Lifeline Program.

If you recently applied for SNAP benefits, you may receive a partial benefit the day after your application is processed, and then receive regular monthly payments from the first through the twentieth of the month, based on the last two digits of your Social Security Number.
