On November 13, 2022, police responded to a call about “unconscious individuals”. According to an article from the New York Times, local authorities described the incident as a “crime of passion” on November 14. Moscow, Idaho Mayor Art Bettge stated in an interview that the case is still under investigation but the authorities treat it as a homicide. The Latah County coroner, Cathy Mabbutt, also said that all four deaths were considered a homicide. Ms. Mabbutt’s office conducted autopsies on November 16, however, she could not provide any information about the report without approval from the police.
