Brian Laundrie, the man, designated a person of interest in the disappearance of his fiancée, Gabby Petito, disappeared a week ago. Authorities in Florida announced Tuesday that they would search for him again in the 25,000-acre wildlife reserve where he allegedly went hiking before vanishing.

NBC News reported that that detectives had “exhausted all options” at the county park in Sarasota. But the North Port Police Department said it returned to the Carlton Reserve to search for Laundrie.

Gabby Petito Case: Authorities Resume Search For Missing Fiancé

After Tuesday’s search, the agency found “nothing of significance.” But they indicated a similar investigation will take place on Wednesday. Authorities had said they intended to concentrate their efforts on a particular reserve area and adjacent properties. It’s unclear what brought authorities back to the region.

The Carlton Reserve, which is sometimes waist-deep in water, is a large and unforgiving place, according to North Port Police. “This is dangerous work for the search crews as they are wading through gator andsnake-infestedd swamps and flooded hiking and biking trails,” officials said per Independent.co.uk.

According to Steven Bertolino, an attorney for the family, Laundrie’s parents informed police that he went to the reserve last Tuesday, which was the last time they saw him. The FBI also searched Laundrie and Petito’s Florida home with his parents on Monday.

Gabby Petito Case: Why Fiancé Became A Person of Interest

Laundrie was designated a person of interest in the disappearance of his fiancée last week. However, police stressed on Friday that he was not sought for a crime.

Authorities discovered Petito’s remains in a campsite in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest, near Grand Teton National Park on Sunday. The reason for death is still unknown awaiting the findings of an autopsy.

In July, Petito and Laundrie started a cross-country tour of national parks, chronicling their trip with the hashtag #VanLife on YouTube and Instagram. Laundrie arrived in the couple’s vehicle in North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1 – 10 days before Petito’s family reported her missing, according to authorities.

Nicole Schmidt, Petito’s mother, claimed she hasn’t heard from her daughter since the end of August. Petito allegedly sent a message that there was no service in Yosemite. Petito may or may not have sent the SMS message.
