128 Democrats Break Ranks and Help GOP Block Shocking Impeachment Attempt Against Trump

In a surprising move that’s shaking up political circles, 128 House Democrats joined forces with Republicans to shut down a progressive Democrat’s attempt to impeach former President Donald Trump. The bold effort was stopped before it could move forward — leaving many Americans stunned by the cross-party unity.

The attempt to impeach Trump came from Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a progressive lawmaker who introduced the resolution. Her goal was to hold Trump accountable for actions she believes violated the Constitution — even though he’s no longer in office. But things didn’t go the way she expected.

Instead of rallying behind the move, a majority of Democrats voted against it, with many saying it was not the right time or place for another impeachment attempt. They argued that with Trump already out of office, it’s better to focus on current national issues like the economy, healthcare, and democracy.

The House voted 285 to 121 to table (kill) the resolution, meaning it won’t be brought up for a full debate or vote. Among the 285 votes to block it, 128 came from Democrats — a clear sign that even within the party, there’s disagreement over how to deal with Trump’s past presidency.

House Republicans, as expected, fully opposed the impeachment move and were joined by moderate and mainstream Democrats. Many lawmakers said they didn’t want to relive the chaos of past impeachments or distract from ongoing work in Congress.

Some progressive Democrats are frustrated by the vote, saying Trump should still be held accountable for his actions during his time in the White House — especially related to January 6th and claims about the 2020 election.

But moderate Democrats argue that trying to impeach Trump again would likely backfire politically, especially with the 2024 election getting closer. They believe it would give Trump more media attention and possibly energize his base.

This vote has clearly revealed divisions inside the Democratic Party itself. While progressives push for bold accountability, others are more cautious — aiming to focus on present challenges instead of reliving the past.
