Settlement Alert: Empress Ambulance to Pay $1.05M for Data Breach

Cash for Claims: Individuals Could Get up to $10,000 from Settlement

Empress Ambulance Service has agreed to settle a data breach complaint by allocating $1.05 million, from which impacted individuals can seek compensation of up to $10,000. The settlement stemmed from charges that the corporation failed to protect consumer information, resulting in a breach that exposed patient data. Individuals who got data breach notices from Empress Ambulance Service or Empress EMS in Yonkers, New York, in connection with a cyber hacking incident in July 2022 are eligible to collect settlement funds if they complete claim forms by May 8.

Deadline Approaching: Submit Claim Forms by May 8 for Compensation

Claimants seeking reimbursement must provide documentation of credit, tax, or theft-related charges incurred as a result of the data breach. Alternatively, they can opt for an alternative cash fund payment. Each claimant’s compensation will depend on the number of valid claims submitted, with payments distributed equally from the net settlement fund. Although Empress EMS did not admit wrongdoing, the settlement aims to resolve the class action case and provide relief to those affected by the breach. Additionally, class members may receive a year of free credit monitoring and identity protection through TransUnion, as well as two years of free one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services.
