According to PropertyClub, Michigan ranks as the 11th most hazardous state in the nation with noticeable upticks in both violent and property crimes between 2021 and 2023. This revelation underscores broader concerns about safety across the state.

Most Dangerous Cities in Michigan

Jackson, Michigan

In Jackson, Michigan residents face a heightened risk of crime ranking it as the 7th most dangerous city in the state as indicated by PropertyClub. With odds of 1 in 84 for violent crimes and 1 in 31 for property crimes the community grapples with safety concerns.

Highland Park

Highland Park a suburb north of Detroit emerges as the 6th most perilous city in Michigan. PropertyClub’s data reveals a significant 1 in 23 chance for residents to fall victim to various crimes highlighting the challenges posed by the area’s deteriorating infrastructure and social issues.


Albion despite its smaller size contends with a disproportionately high crime rate earning it the 5th spot among Michigan’s most dangerous cities. PropertyClub reports a violent crime rate soaring 196% above the national average underscoring the severity of the situation.

Muskegon Heights

Muskegon Heights deviates from the interstate trend standing out as the 4th most hazardous city in Michigan. With a 1 in 19 likelihood of falling victim to crime residents grapple with prevalent property crimes and home invasions contributing to the city’s concerning safety profile as noted by PropertyClub.


According to PropertyClub Kalamazoo is the third most dangerous city in Michigan with a 1 in 17 probability of suffering crime. Economic hardships such as elevated rates of unemployment and poverty are a contributing factor to the city’s criminal issues.
