Mahomes Sr.’s arrest in Texas, coupled with his prior jail sentence, brought attention to his family’s legal issues

While Patrick Mahomes was enjoying his second straight Super Bowl triumph with the Kansas City Chiefs, his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was once again in legal hot water. As stated in the recent article in Gridiron Heroics, Mahomes Sr. was formally charged on March 28 with a felony of driving while intoxicated in Texas; according to court records, this was his third or more infraction. There is a substantial fine of up to $10,000 along with a possible 10-year term for this indictment. Mahomes Sr., who was previously sentenced to 40 days in jail in 2019 for a DUI charge, was arrested on February 3. This was the most recent in a string of incidents involving drunk driving.

The arrest details paint a concerning picture, with Mahomes Sr. allegedly found with an open container of beer in his car and exhibiting signs of impairment during sobriety tests. Despite the focus on his family’s legal troubles, Patrick Mahomes Jr. decided to keep the matter private during media interactions leading up to the Super Bowl, saying, “It’s a family matter, so I’ll keep it to the family.” Unwelcome drama has been added to the Mahomes family‘s public image with this development, especially with Patrick Mahomes Jr. attempting to win the Super Bowl for the third time in a row and his younger brother Jackson Mahomes dealing with his legal troubles.
