Big news on Wednesday! The U.S. just charged four pro-Russian unveiled war crimes charges against four pro-Russian soldiers for kidnapping and torturing an American in Ukraine.

Legal Action Against Four Military Personnel Affiliated with Russia

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the charges against the four “Russia-affiliated military personnel” mark the inaugural use of the U.S. war crimes statute.

As everyone saw the terrible things happening in Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the Department of Justice is taking it seriously. Attorney General Garland promised they’ll keep working until they make sure Russia is held accountable and justice is served for what they did in the war.

The Justice Department claims that in April 2022, Mkrtchyan and other troops abducted an unidentified American citizen from his residence in Mylove village in southern Ukraine and held him captive for at least ten days.

War crimes—wrongful confinement, torture, and inhuman treatment—and planning to commit war crimes are charged against the four. They might be imprisoned for life if convicted
