The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that approximately 23,430 households in New Mexico may be eligible for disaster food assistance following severe storms and flooding. Through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), the USDA provides temporary food assistance to those impacted by emergencies, even if they don’t typically qualify for regular SNAP benefits.
To qualify for D-SNAP, individuals must reside in the following New Mexico zip codes: 88201, 88202, 88203, 88230, 88232, or 88253. Applicants must meet disaster-related income limits and have qualifying expenses due to the recent disaster.
Eligible households can receive one month of benefits, which will be equivalent to the maximum allowable amount for a SNAP household of their size. These benefits can be used to purchase food at SNAP-authorized retailers.
The D-SNAP application period for New Mexico will open on December 4 and close on December 11. For more information or assistance, residents can call 2-1-1 or visit the official SNAP website.
